Introducing PCA Hybrid
Prestonwood Christian Academy Hybrid provides a specialized delivery platform and learning design for our students. PCA Hybrid operates at the Plano Campus as part of the Prestonwood Christian Academy School System. This uniquely designed school model furthers our ability to expand Kingdom education and provide an additional high quality Christ-centered educational model for our North Dallas community.
Definition of Terms
Blended Learning
Blended Learning is a term that PCA Hybrid uses to describe an educational strategy that combines the use of online educational activities with more traditional classroom methods. During on-campus school days (three days a week for PCA Hybrid) both teacher and student are present and engaged in a variety of teacher-led activities. Satellite Learning days (two days a week) take place away from the traditional classroom. These activities are designed to extend learning and provide a framework for parent oversight.
Project-Based Learning (PBL)
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. The Seven Essential Project Design Elements for PBL include: Challenging Problem or Question, Sustained Inquiry, Authenticity, Student Voice and Choice, Refection, Critique and Revision, and a Public Product. PBL requires critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and various forms of communication. To answer a driving question and create high-quality work, students need to do much more than remember information. They need to use higher-order thinking skills and learn to work as a team. Boss, S. Satellite Learning
Satellite Learning days take place away from the traditional classroom school day and are directed by the student’s parent(s) or another adult. PCA Hybrid academic team provides parents and students the academic activities designed to extend learning during these two days weekly. Many of these activities include computer-mediated content and delivery. The classroom teacher is not actively involved in delivery or oversight of these activities during Satellite Learning days.
Student Agency
Student Agency is when students set goals, devise plans to reach these goals, and monitor and adjust actions as needed. Teachers and parents provide the necessary
support during this process, and when done properly, students develop a strong sense of ownership and love for learning.
